Melodi Masa Kecil: Inspiring Stories and Songs

In a heartwarming tribute to legendary Indonesian children’s songwriters AT Mahmud, Ibu Sud, and L. Manik, Grades 3, 4, and 5 presented a captivating musical drama titled “Pilar Drama Musikal: Melodi Masa Kecil”. More than just a form of entertainment, “Melodi Masa Kecil” served as a testament to the power of music to educate, inspire, and unite, while also addressing the growing concern about the diminishing recognition of children’s songs among the younger generation. Bapak Dr. Iwan Kresna Setiadi as the Management Board of Sekolah Pilar Indonesia was interviewed on the spot by the students. Pak Iwan shared his perspective on how the young generation should appreciate our culture and diversity of Indonesian music. He encouraged students to contribute to society in the future. He also thanked the parents who had supported the event and asked them to continue motivating the students, to be the best versions of themselves.

Below are some responses from the audience:

It was a pleasure to come here this morning and to watch the children performed. I always love to listen to Indonesian songs, especially sung by children. I think Indonesian culture is so musical and almost everybody that I know in Indonesia can sing beautifully and can play an instrument, and I think that is a beautiful part of the Indonesian culture. I think it’s the way of passing on knowledge and information to the younger generation and I think it’s a very important part of Indonesian culture to protect and maintain. I congratulate all the children who performed today and I wish them all the best with their study and their future.

Ibu Gaynor Davis

I really enjoyed this event because I love to hear Indonesian songs and I wish that I knew more. I’m very happy that the younger children are learning them again, because I think they’re old songs from a few years back and we have to keep them alive.
