Grade 2 Students Exploring Fractions

Grade 2 students have explored the materials about fractions. As one of the learning experiences, they brought sandwiches to school and worked in pairs to cut them in halves and quarters. Real life experiences really help students understand the materials better and realise the importance of maths in their lives. Well done, Grade 2!

Siswa kelas 2 telah mengeksplorasi materi tentang pecahan. Sebagai salah satu kegiatan pembelajaran, mereka membawa sandwich ke sekolah dan bekerja berpasangan untuk memotong sandwich dalam 2 dan 4 bagian, untuk memahami konsep pecahan setengah dan seperempat. Belajar dengan konteks kehidupan nyata membuat mereka memahami materi dengan lebih baik dan pentingnya matematika dalam kehidupan. Bagus sekali hasil kerja kalian, kelas 2!

Parent Workshop for Primary Years Programme (PYP) Parents

On Saturday, 10th of November 2018, some PYP parents from Grades 1-5 attended the Parent Workshop at Sekolah Pilar Indonesia. With enthusiasm and curiosity, they participated in a halfday workshop about learning through inquiry. The workshop was divided into two sessions. The first session was facilitated by the PYP Coordinator, Ibu Rini Effendi, while the second one by the ECC and Grade 1 teachers.

On November 16th, Grade 5 students had a second session with Bapak Randy Primasetya as the guest speaker, after the first one held the previous week. With great enthusiasm and curiosity, Grade 5 students listened to Pak Randy’s explanation about the Earth’s atmosphere. Using videos and simple experiments, Pak Randy talked about the layers in our atmosphere with its own characteristics and natural phenomena happening in the atmosphere. With participation from the students, Pak Randy held simple experiments about wind and how a tornado is formed.

On November 9th, Grade 5 students had a session with a special guest speaker, Pak Randy Primasetya, the High School Geography teacher. Currently, Grade 5 is exploring a unit under the theme “How the World Works” with the central idea “Changes in the Earth and its atmosphere have impacts on the way people live their lives.” Pak Randy helped us understand more clearly about the continuing changes on Earth.

On the session, Pak Randy focused on the changes in lithosphere, the Earth’s outermost layer. Next week, he will talk about the changes happening in the atmosphere. Thank you very much, Pak Randy. We’re looking forward to having you again next week and learn much more about our Earth.
