Grade 5 Learning the Importance of Forests with Hutan Itu Indonesia

Grade 5 students have just explored a unit under the theme of “Sharing the Planet”. We inquired into the concept of adaptation, circumstances that lead to adaptation and how living things have adapted in response to the environment. Yesterday we had an opportunity to learn from two guest speakers, Kak Didie and Kak Fajri, from Hutan Itu Indonesia, an organization that promotes forest conservation. They presented the materials on the types of forests in Indonesia, the biodiversity, endemic animals and plants of Indonesia and human responsibilities to conserve forests.

Grade 4 Students Exploring Human Body Systems

Grade 4 students have recently inquired into the unit about human body systems with the central idea “The effective interactions between human body systems contribute to health and survival.” We collaborated and investigated eight systems in human body and found out about the organs, the functions and how the systems work.

Grade 9 Parent Presentation: The Smallest Things Can Do More than You Think

“The smallest things can do more than you think” was the theme for Grade 9 Parent Presentation, which was held on 19th October 2018 in the Amphitheatre of Sekolah Pilar Indonesia. In this Parent Presentation, Grade 9 students presented drama and music performances which represented their learning in some subjects, namely Maths, Science, Humanities, Arts and Music. They prepared the presentation in about two weeks. They performed so confidently and well that the audience was entertained and got some important information about a natural disaster and how to deal with it.

Grade six students have just learnt about human skeletal system and postural problems. On Wednesday, 17th October 2018, we invited Ibu Nadra Ernest Purbasari, a yoga instructor and also one of the grade six parents shared about habits or lifestyles that contribute to poor posture or postural problems, such as sitting and playing gadgets for long hours, as well as repeated motions, or remaining fixed in one particular position without frequent breaks. We also learnt that postural problems can affect physical and mental health.
